One of the recent episodes of Shark Tank India Season 3 has sparked a legal battle between the Cricket Bat Manufacturers Association of Kashmir (CBMAK) and Tramboo Sports, a Jammu and Kashmir-based cricket bat manufacturer. The episode, which aired on January 30, featured Tramboo Sports, represented by young entrepreneurs Hamad Tramboo and Saad Tramboo, who secured a deal from prominent investors Aman Gupta and Peyush Bansal.
However, the excitement surrounding the investment took an unexpected turn as CBMAK disputes the claims made by Tramboo Sports during their Shark Tank pitch. The association alleges that the company falsely positioned itself as the exclusive producer of Kashmir willow cricket bats, leading to a detrimental impact on the business of CBMAK members and causing harm to the reputation of the entire Kashmiri bat-making industry.

Expressing astonishment at the claims made by Tramboo Sports on the Shark Tank India episode, CBMAK stated, "We emphasize our role as the true and only representative of Kashmir's cricket bat manufacturers." The association is now taking legal action against both Sony Pictures Networks and Tramboo Sports, demanding a public apology to be broadcasted on-air by both accused parties within a fortnight. Additionally, CBMAK is seeking compensation amounting to Rs 100 crore for the losses and mental distress caused to its members.
During the controversial episode, Tramboo Sports presented itself as an innovator in the field, a claim vehemently contested by CBMAK. The association's President Fayaz Ahmad Dar and Vice President Fawzul Kabiir, along with other members, pointed out various misleading statements made by the entrepreneurs. Particularly, CBMAK expressed concern over incorrect claims regarding international recognitions and milestones achieved by Kashmir Willow bats made by other local manufacturers.
The association highlighted GR8 Sports India as the "first and only International Cricket Council (ICC) approved brand of Kashmir." According to CBMAK, GR8 Sports India is also the first brand from the valley to successfully take Kashmiri cricket bats to the international market. These assertions challenge the narrative put forth by Tramboo Sports during their Shark Tank pitch.
Tramboo Sports managed to secure a deal from seasoned investors Aman Gupta, co-founder of boAt, and Peyush Bansal, CEO of Lenskart. The investors offered Rs 30 lakh for a 4% equity stake in the startup, making it one of the notable deals of the episode.
The legal battle between CBMAK and Tramboo Sports brings to light the challenges faced by regional industries in maintaining their reputation and market standing. The outcome of this dispute will not only impact the involved parties but may also set a precedent for how businesses present themselves on popular television platforms like Shark Tank.
As the controversy unfolds, the Shark Tank India Season 3 episode continues to draw attention, not only for the entrepreneurial deals struck but also for the unexpected legal clash that has emerged in the aftermath. The cricket bat industry finds itself at the centre of a debate that could perhaps reshape perceptions and practices within the business landscape.
