Investing in the stock market can be intimidating, but a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) can be a powerful tool for building wealth over time. This is especially true when you consider the recent performance of some equity mutual funds. According to data from ACE MF, around 30 equity mutual funds delivered stellar returns exceeding 50% on SIP investments made in the financial year 2024 (FY24).
These top-performing funds highlight the potential of SIPs for long-term wealth creation. Let's take a look at the top 10 performers and see how a simple monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 could have grown significantly in just one year:

Quant Value Fund: This fund emerged as the champion, offering a staggering 77.44% return on SIP investments in FY24. With this performance, a monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 initiated in April 2023 would have ballooned to a corpus of Rs 1.64 lakh by March 2024.
Quant Midcap Fund & Invesco India Focused Fund: Following closely behind are Quant Midcap Fund and Invesco India Focused Fund, with returns of 63.93% and 63.88% respectively on SIP investments in FY24. Both funds would have converted your monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 into a corpus of around Rs 1.57 lakh within a year.
Quant Large & Midcap Fund & ITI Mid Cap Fund: Diversification across market capitalizations also proved successful. Quant Large & Midcap Fund and ITI Mid Cap Fund, catering to both large and midcap stocks, delivered impressive XIRRs of 63.72% and 61.13% on SIP investments in FY24. These returns translate to a potential corpus of around Rs 1.57 lakh and Rs 1.55 lakh respectively, for a monthly SIP of Rs 10,000.
Flexi-Cap Options Shine: The Flexicap category also saw strong performances. Quant Flexi Cap Fund and Bank of India Flexi Cap Fund offered XIRRs of 58.29% and 58.16% respectively on SIP investments in FY24. These returns translate to a potential corpus of around Rs 1.54 lakh for a monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 in either fund.
Established Players Deliver: Renowned fund houses like Motilal Oswal and SBI also made the list. Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund and SBI Long Term Equity Fund (ELSS) offered XIRRs of 57.69% and 57.33% respectively on SIP investments in FY24. These returns translate to a potential corpus of around Rs 1.53 lakh for a monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 in either fund.
Small Caps Join the Party: Even a small cap focused fund like Quant Small Cap Fund managed to deliver a strong XIRR of 57% on SIP investments in FY24. This translates to a potential corpus of around Rs 1.53 lakh for a monthly SIP of Rs 10,000.
While these returns are certainly eye-catching, it's crucial to remember that past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. The stock market is inherently volatile, and these high returns may not be sustainable in the long run. However, this data highlights the potential of SIPs for wealth creation, especially when coupled with disciplined investing over a long period.
