SJVN Ltd, a state-owned power producer, has received approval from the finance ministry to establish four joint venture companies for the development of hydro and renewable energy projects in India and Nepal, with a combined capacity of 8,778 MW.
State-owned power producer SJVN Ltd announced on Monday that it has obtained the finance ministry's permission to establish four joint venture (JV) companies for the development of hydro and renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 8,778 MW in India and Nepal. SJVN will serve as the leading partner in three of these joint ventures, while its wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), will lead the fourth JV.

Joint Venture Partnerships
SJVN will collaborate with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd to develop 5,000 MW of renewable energy projects. Another JV will be formed between SJVN, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and Navyuga Engineering Company Ltd to execute the development of the 1,878 MW Oju Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
The third JV will involve SJVN partnering with Nepal Electricity Authority and GMR Energy Limited for the implementation of the 900 MW Upper Karnali Hydro Electric Project in Nepal. In this JV, SJVN and GMR will share equal equity partnership.
Additionally, SGEL will form a JV with Assam Power Development Company Ltd to develop 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects in the state of Assam.
SJVN's Expansion and Diversification
SJVN has expanded and diversified its operations across various sectors, including hydro, thermal, solar, and wind energy, as well as power transmission and power trading. The company has emerged as a prominent public sector power entity in the Indian power industry. SJVN's project portfolio exceeds 56,000 MW, with a presence across India and Nepal.
