Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed the concept of developing smart villages similar to smart cities. During the 42nd Convocation at the School of Planning and Architecture, he expressed his thoughts on this idea. "In urban areas we are making smart city... why we are not thinking on the line that how we should make smart village. So that thing is in my mind. I am also making a smart village," he stated.

Gadkari elaborated on his vision by mentioning a model where a 1,000 square feet plot could have a 500 square feet house costing Rs 5 lakh, with free electricity and water for life. He emphasised the importance of knowledge, stating that converting knowledge into wealth is crucial for India's future.
Knowledge and Economic Growth
The minister highlighted the role of educated manpower in achieving the Prime Minister's vision of a $5 trillion economy and self-reliance for India. "I always say that in every profession knowledge is very important," he remarked, underscoring the significance of knowledge across various fields.
Gadkari also pointed out that besides knowledge, presence of mind and experience are vital. He stressed the importance of decision-making skills, human relations, and presentation abilities for architects, indicating that expertise in one's field alone is not enough.
Balancing Development and Environment
He identified ecology, economy, and environment as the three critical pillars of society. Gadkari noted the necessity to protect ecology and environment while pursuing development. He called for cooperation, coordination, and communication between these aspects to ensure balanced progress.
The minister's remarks reflect a broader vision for sustainable development in India. By integrating smart village concepts with ecological considerations, Gadkari aims to foster growth while preserving natural resources.
His ideas suggest a holistic approach to development that aligns with India's economic goals. The emphasis on knowledge transformation and environmental balance highlights key strategies for future progress.
