SpiceJet, one of India's leading airlines, announced on Thursday the successful resolution of a $49.8 million (INR 413 crore) dispute with Echelon Ireland Madison One Ltd., resulting in significant cost savings and the acquisition of two airframes. This settlement marks the third major resolution for SpiceJet following its recent fundraising, totaling savings of INR 685 crore for the airline.
Spicejet's BSE shares climbed 5% to Rs 64.50 in intraday trading, while on the NSE, the stock rose 3.70% to Rs 64.25. This surge reflects positive market sentiment towards the airline, likely driven by various factors influencing investor confidence.

Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, expressed his satisfaction with the settlement, stating, "We are pleased to announce the successful resolution of our dispute with Echelon Ireland Madison One Ltd., marking another significant milestone for SpiceJet. This settlement not only underscores our commitment to financial prudence but also enables us to further fortify our fleet with the acquisition of two airframes."
The settlement with Echelon Ireland Madison One Ltd. will result in savings of $48 million (INR 398 Crore) for SpiceJet. Additionally, SpiceJet will acquire two airframes as part of the agreement, enhancing the airline's fleet and operational capabilities.
This settlement follows SpiceJet's recent successful resolution of a $29.9 million (INR 250 Crore) dispute with Celestial Aviation on February 28, resulting in savings of INR 235 Crore. On March 5, SpiceJet announced the settlement terms with aircraft leasing firm Cross Ocean Partners, resolving a dispute of about $11.2 million (INR 93 Crore). As part of the arrangement, the airline will benefit from the transfer of an airframe and an engine at no additional cost, augmenting its operational capabilities.
These strategic settlements have further solidified SpiceJet's financial stability and balance sheet, positioning the airline for continued growth and success in the Indian aviation market. SpiceJet operates a fleet of Boeing 737s, Q-400s, and freighters, making it India's largest regional player operating multiple daily flights under UDAN, the Regional Connectivity Scheme. The majority of the airline's fleet offers SpiceMax, providing the most spacious economy class seating in India.
SpiceJet's recent settlements demonstrate its commitment to financial prudence and strategic growth, ensuring that it remains a key player in India's aviation sector. With a strengthened balance sheet and enhanced operational capabilities, SpiceJet is well-positioned to continue making flying affordable for more Indians than ever before.
