A tragic stampede-like situation broke out at New Delhi Railway Station on the night of 15th February, resulting in the death of 19 people, including 11 women and 5 children, and leaving many others injured. The incident occurred due to a huge gathering of passengers on the New Delhi Railway Station for boarding a train to Maha Kumbh Mela which led to overcrowding on multiple platforms.
What Caused the Stampede at New Delhi Railway Station?
According to reports from The Hindu, the situation escalated around 9:55 PM on platforms 14 and 15, as thousands of devotees attempted to board a train to Prayagraj.
Locals said that the rush at the new Delhi railway station increased after two trains were delayed and people tried to hop onto whichever train available.

As per a report from Zee News, the passengers from Swatantra Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express also gathered on platforms which led to massive overcrowding which eventually triggered a panic-induced stampede which caused injuries and death to several individuals
Casualties At New Delhi Stampede
As per reports, the stampede resulted in about 19 deaths, with many others injured. Those who sustained injuries were immediately rushed to LNJP Hospital and RML Hospital in Delhi for treatment. The exact number of critically injured passengers.is yet to be released by the railway Authorities.
Authorities' Response and Measures Taken
In order to control the Situation Emergency response teams, including the Delhi Police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) were quickly sent on the spot to assist the victims. The medical teams worked to provide first aid and emergency care to the injured.
The government has initiated a high-level probe into the incident to investigate the cause of the stampede and assess potential lapses in crowd management. The Ministry of Railways and the Delhi Government are working together to prevent such incidents in the future, focusing on better crowd control measures at major railway stations during high-traffic events like the Maha Kumbh.
Following the tragic event, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to social media, expressing his condolences. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated, "Deeply saddened by the unfortunate stampede that occurred at New Delhi Railway Station. My prayers are with all those who have lost their loved ones. The entire team is working to assist all those who have been affected by this tragic incident."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief over the situation, posting on X he said, "Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede."
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as authorities find out the actual cause and responsibility for the disaster.
