The robot delivery startup firm - Nuro has announced its intention to lay off around 30 per cent of its workforce, which sums up to around 340 employees. The decision was arrived at after the company had shifted its focus towards Research and Development (R&D) away from its commercial operations.

In a blog post, the co-founders of Nuro - Dave Ferguson and Jiajun Zhu explained the company's plans to ramp up their commercial operations this year and this has delayed the volume production of Nuro bot, a third-generation or R3. Nuro Bot is a delivery robot designed to be the flagship of its commercial strategy.
By changing the strategy, the company will be able to operate twice as long, by giving it enough capital to operate the firm for another three years without needing to raise more money for operational purposes.
Earlier in November, the company had laid off around 20 per cent of its employees in a similar way to extend its capital funds.
The firm now plans to offer a 12-week severance package for the laid-off employees and two additional weeks for those with experience of two or more years of tenure. Apart from this, eligible employees will also be getting 62.5 per cent of their target bonus or payment of spring bonus amounts for the employees on a biannual performance bonus.
Nuro has confirmed that it will offer healthcare coverage till September 30th and provide support to the employees who are holding visas.
By focusing on research and development, the company aims to create a more sequential development model which will enable it to bring better products to the markets in the coming days.
