The State Bank of India (SBI) announced on Friday that it is looking into installing an iris scanner at the Banking Correspondent or Customer Service Point to help consumers or senior seniors who are experiencing difficulties. Seniors won't have to visit branches to withdraw their pensions; instead, they can do so through the Bank Mitra channel that is closest to them.
The Bank has also been looking for the options of installing iris scanners at our BC/CSP (Bank Mitra) channels in order to alleviate the difficulties our Senior Pensioners/Customers confront, SBI said in a statement. According to SBI, a variety of financial inclusion initiatives receive focused attention, and the company has always matched its commercial objectives with national aspirations.

However, it said that a recent unfortunate incident involved a senior citizen customer who had trouble withdrawing her old age pension from the nearby CSP (Bank Mitra) in the Jharigaon block of the Nabrangpur district of Odisha because her fading fingerprints could not be read by the CSP's biometric reader. According to established protocols, SBI Jharigaon, the closest link branch, instantly paid the pension by manually deducting the appropriate amount from the pensioner's account, it continued. The bank manager has also informed her that moving ahead, she will receive her pension at her door.
According to the statement, SBI has donated the retiree a wheelchair as a token of goodwill to make her mobility easier. While the necessary procedures are already in place to deal with such circumstances, SBI has taken further notice of the issue and has begun reminding all of our BCs/CSPs (Bank Mitra) to contact their link branches in case of any problems they encounter while providing services to our customers, it said.
