Sunjay Kapur, the billionaire chairman of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) and the former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, has passed away at the age of 53. According to reports, Sunjay Kapur died on June 12, 2025, after a sudden cardiac arrest during a polo match in the United Kingdom. Sunjay Kapur was a renowned Indian industrialist known for his leadership of Sona Comstar, a leading supplier of auto components and electric vehicle systems. Shares of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) came under pressure on Friday, slipping as much as 8% intraday after the company confirmed the death of Chairman and Non-Executive Director Sunjay Kapur in the United Kingdom. The news spooked investors, leading the stock to hit a day's low of Rs. 471.55 on the BSE before recovering slightly to trade at Rs. 495.95. However the stock ended the day at Rs. 501.85 falling 1.76%.
Despite the short-term market reaction, Sona Comstar's market capitalisation is currently standing at over Rs. 60,000 crore as of June 2025. Analysts believe the company's strong international order book and exposure to the EV supply chain will lend to its long-term growth.

Sunjay Kapur is widely recognised in public memory as Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband. The couple married in 2003 and had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, before a much-publicised divorce in 2016. Their separation drew attention from media and fans, but both later focused on their personal lives. After the divorce, Sunjay Kapur married Priya Sachdev, a model and entrepreneur. The couple shared a son, Azarias, and co-parented Priya's daughter from her previous marriage.
