During the festive weekend, Indian cinema halls witnessed the release of two major films, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, a romantic comedy and Kantara: Chapter 1, the much-anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster directed by and starring Rishab Shetty. While both films generated buzz leading up to their release, the box office performance has clearly tilted in favour of Kantara, one of the biggest openers of the year.
Backed by strong regional appeal, compelling storytelling and a loyal fanbase, Kantara: Chapter 1 stormed past records within its first few days, leaving Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari struggling to keep pace despite its star-studded cast and festive timing.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Box Office Collection Day 2 Updates
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, a romantic comedy directed by Shashank Khaitan and starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf was released on October 2, 2025. The film had a decent start, collecting Rs 9.25 crore on its opening day. However, collections dipped slightly on the second day (Friday), bringing in Rs 5.25 crore, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.
This brought the film's total domestic collection to approximately Rs 14.5 crore by the end of its second day according to Sacnilk data.
The film's overall occupancy on Friday was recorded at 18.01%. Morning shows reported a turnout of just 9.06%, which gradually increased through the day, 17.44% in the afternoon, 18.33% in the evening and a noticeable jump to 27.20% during night shows.
SSKTK BO Collection VS Rishab Shetty's Kantara: Chapter 1 Box Office Collection
Meanwhile, Kantara: Chapter 1, written and directed by Rishab Shetty, delivered a blockbuster opening. As per Sacnilk, the film collected a staggering Rs 61.85 crore on its opening day across all languages. In its Hindi version alone, Kantara managed to collect Rs 18.5 crore on day one, surpassing Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari's opening collection.
Kantara: Chapter 1 Joins Rs 100 Crore Box Office Club
On the second day, Kantara: Chapter 1 continued the momentum with Rs 43.65 crore, taking the film's total domestic collection to an impressive Rs 105.5 crore in just two days as per Sacnilk data. The massive success of Kantara: Chapter 1 is being attributed to strong audience reception, a gripping narrative and a wide multilingual release.
While Sunny Sanskari benefits from star power and a festive launch, the regional appeal and storytelling depth of Kantara appear to have struck a stronger chord with audiences across India.
Pawan Kalyan's OG to Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi Starrer Jolly LLB 3: Other Films in Competition
Pawan Kalyan's South Indian film 'OG' also finds itself trailing behind 'Kantara Chapter 1'. On its ninth day, 'OG' managed to earn Rs 4.75 crore, bringing its cumulative earnings to an impressive 174.05 crore rupees according to Sacnilk. Given its current pace, it might soon join the prestigious 200 crore club.
Another notable mention is 'Jolly LLB 3', starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. This film has crossed the coveted 100 crore mark as well, reaching a total of 104.15 crore rupees by its fifteenth day despite daily declines in revenue.
