PM Modi to inaugurate Surat Diamond Bourse on December 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly constructed Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) building on December 17, 2022. The SDB building is situated in Khajod village near Surat city and is part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City project. This inauguration marks a significant milestone in the development of Surat's diamond industry.

135 Diamond Trading Firms Begin Operations

On Tuesday, 135 diamond trading firms commenced operations at their offices within the SDB. Among these, 26 diamond traders have permanently relocated their businesses from Mumbai to the SDB, while the remaining firms were previously operating in Surat and other parts of Gujarat. Jayanti Navadiya, the media convener of the SDB, announced these developments in an official statement.

Dussehra Inauguration and Ongoing Occupancy

On the auspicious day of Dussehra, 983 traders took possession of their offices within the SDB. Since then, an additional 20 to 15 traders have been acquiring their offices and performing customary rituals daily. The steady influx of traders reflects the growing interest and enthusiasm surrounding the SDB project.

Former Gujarat CM Performed Ground-breaking Ceremony

In February 2015, the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel, conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the SDB and DREAM City project. This marked the official commencement of the ambitious initiative aimed at transforming Surat's diamond industry.

World's Largest Office Building for Diamond Trading

With an impressive floor space of 67 lakh square feet, the SDB has secured its position as the world's largest office building dedicated to diamond trading. It comprises nearly 4,500 diamond trading offices, catering to the diverse needs of the industry. The mega structure is situated on a 35.54-acre plot within the DREAM City and consists of nine towers with ground plus 15 floors. Office spaces range from 300 square feet to 1 lakh square feet, providing flexibility for businesses of various sizes.
