The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has officially announced its recommendation for Sushil Sharma to assume the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) at SJVN. This decision comes after a comprehensive selection process involving nine candidates from various sectors. Sharma, who has been a part of SJVN since August 1, 2020, as Director Projects, emerged as the preferred candidate for this prestigious position.

The selection process culminated with interviews conducted on April 8, where Sharma was chosen from a competitive pool that included two other SJVN officials, two officers from Indian Railways, and representatives from NHPC, BSNL, Power Grid, GAIL India Ltd, and Patel Engineering. This diverse group of candidates underscores the rigorous standards upheld by the PESB in its selection process.
Sushil Sharma's journey with SJVN began in January 1994 when he joined the hydroelectric power generation company as an assistant engineer. An alumnus of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, Sharma has significantly contributed to the design, construction, and commissioning of major projects. His portfolio includes the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station and the 412 MW Rampur Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh, as well as the 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Power Station in Uttarakhand.
The PESB operates under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. It plays a crucial role in selecting and placing candidates for the positions of chairman, managing director or chairman-cum-managing director, and functional director in public sector enterprises (PSEs). Additionally, it is tasked with filling posts at various levels as specified by the government. The board's commitment to finding capable leaders is evident in its meticulous selection process.
Sharma's appointment reflects his extensive experience and contributions to SJVN over the years. His leadership is expected to steer the company towards achieving its strategic goals and continuing its legacy of excellence in the energy sector.
