The Tamil Nadu government embarks on a mission to transform commercial establishments name boards to Tamil across the state. Traders are encouraged to make the switch by April, following a successful campaign in Erode.
In a significant move to promote the use of Tamil language, the Tamil Nadu government has initiated a campaign to replace name boards of commercial establishments, shops, and enterprises with Tamil signage across the state. The government's efforts aim to ensure a smooth transition to Tamil name boards by the end of April.

Collaborative Efforts for a Seamless Transition
Minister M P Swaminathan, who chairs the Tamil Development, Information, and Publicity portfolio, along with senior government officials, including Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development C V Ganesan, convened a second review meeting to discuss the progress of the initiative. During the meeting, Swaminathan emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the traders' community to achieve a successful transition.
Positive Response and Replication
Swaminathan expressed his delight at the positive response from traders in Erode, where some establishments have already replaced their name boards with Tamil signage. He highlighted this as a welcome move and encouraged other traders across the state to follow suit.
Government Order and Awareness Campaign
Swaminathan cited a government order mandating the use of Tamil language in government departments, files, and buildings. In response to a request from the Traders Federation, he announced that an awareness campaign would be conducted in every district before the end of March to encourage traders to adopt Tamil name boards.
Extension of Awareness Campaign
Considering the request from the Traders Federation, Swaminathan granted an additional month for the awareness campaign to be conducted across all districts. He urged traders to ensure a smooth transition to Tamil name boards by the end of April, without the need for a government order.
The Tamil Nadu government's initiative to promote the use of Tamil in commercial establishments reflects its commitment to preserving and promoting the state's linguistic heritage. By encouraging traders to adopt Tamil name boards, the government aims to create a stronger sense of cultural identity and pride among the people of Tamil Nadu.
