Tata Capital Limited, the Tata Group's major NBFC, made a subdued stock market debut today, listing at Rs 330 per share on both the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange. The issue listed at a modest 1.23% premium over its IPO price, despite the IPO being oversubscribed 1.95 times during October 6-8 in the primary market. The Tata Capital listing slightly exceeded grey market expectations, which had predicted a flat debut.

The Tata Capital IPO was valued at Rs 15,512 crore, with a price band set between Rs 310 and Rs 326 per share. The fully book-built issue included a fresh issue of 21 crore shares worth Rs 6,846 crore and an offer-for-sale of 26.58 crore shares valued at Rs 8,666 crore.

Market Sentiment
On its first trading day, Tata Capital shares received buy ratings from brokerages like Emkay Global & JM Financials. Even with the positive recommendations, the stock was initially listed at just 1% above the IPO price with a lacklustre market debut. As per the report, for long-term investors, the stock could offer growth potential given its diversified financing operations, which include housing finance, retail loans, and cleantech capital. Short-term traders, however, may adopt a wait-and-watch strategy until the stock establishes stronger momentum in the secondary market.

The last recorded grey market premium for Tata Capital shares was Rs.0; investors did not expect significant immediate gains or losses at listing.
