The induction of Neville Tata, son of Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata, as a trustee remains uncertain after a key Sir Ratan Tata Trusts (SRTT) board meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 17, was postponed. The meeting was deferred as all trustees were unable to attend and is expected to be rescheduled soon, The Indian Express reported, citing sources.
Neville Tata was supposed to join as a trustee in line with an earlier plan; however, the induction is yet to be completed due to certain procedural delays raised by other trustees. There has been no official announcement by Tata Trust officials regarding the same. An official response to the GoodReturns query is awaited.

In November 2025, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) had unanimously approved the induction of Neville Tata and Bhaskar Bhat, the former Managing Director and CEO of Titan Company, as trustees for a three-year tenure. However the induction couldn't happen because of some procedural issues, reported IE.
The Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust together hold about two-thirds of Tata Sons, which is the principal holding company of the $350-billion Tata Group. Because of this concentration of ownership, every trustee appointment at these two trusts is seen as important for the group's overall governance, making the delay in Neville Tata's induction particularly significant.
Tata Trust boardroom battle garnered significant attention from investors and even the central government ministers last year after Mehli Mistry, a close aide of late Ratan Tata, saw his tenure end on October 28, 2025.
Amid the tussle over renewal of Mehli Mistry's tenure, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a meeting with top Tata Group leaders, N Chandrasekaran and Noel Tata, on October 7. The meeting was also attended by Home Minister Amit Shah to address the internal governance dispute within Tata Trusts.
Mistry, backed by Darius Khambata, Jehangir H. C. Jehangir and Pramit Jhaveri, had flagged concerns about how information was being circulated among trustees, according to people aware of those conversations.
Those concerns were discussed at meetings of the Trusts in September and earlier, and later intersected with debates on board roles.
At the November 11 meeting of the Trusts, Venu Srinivasan was reappointed, first with a life term that was later shortened to three years, in line with Maharashtra government rules. That meeting also saw Neville Tata formally join the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, even as Neville Tata's induction into the Sir Ratan Tata Trust remained pending because that trust did not adopt the shared slate.
