The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin, highlighted the rise of cyber crimes alongside technological advancements. He emphasised the need for tech-based solutions to combat digital crimes. Speaking at the Umagine TN 2025 conference, Stalin noted that this event aims to foster inclusive growth through technology.

Stalin mentioned Tamil Nadu's leadership in promoting business and entrepreneurship. Efforts are underway to enhance AI, Blockchain, IoT, e-vehicle manufacturing, and other emerging technologies. Since 2021, the number of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) has increased significantly, with at least 350 operating in Tamil Nadu.
Technology's Role in Governance
Stalin stressed the importance of technology in everyday life, advocating for simplicity and security to prevent fraud. He reiterated the need for robust design to curb cyber crimes. The Chief Minister also highlighted initiatives like TIDEL Park and ELCOT IT Parks in tier-2 and 3 cities.
A new 2-million sq ft facility for AI is planned in Coimbatore under a public-private partnership model. Human resources are crucial for IT sector growth, and the Naan Mudhalvan upskilling scheme has been successful in empowering Tamil Nadu students.
AI and Job Opportunities
Information Technology Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan stated that AI and Machine Learning would create more jobs. IT is being used to provide e-services and enhance e-governance. The government aims to offer all services online to save people's time.
The number of e-sevai centres has more than doubled from 14,927 in 2021 to 33,554 in 2024. Technology and data have facilitated the Direct Benefit Transfer of funds worth crores to beneficiaries.
