The Kerala Story 2 Ticket Booking Available After Court's Stay? Check When Will Film Release & Refund Details

Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story 2 was scheduled to release in theatres across India on February 27, but its theatrical debut has been put on hold following a court order. The last-minute legal development has left moviegoers confused, especially as the film continued to appear on ticket-booking platforms even after the release was stayed.

The Kerala Story 2 Release Stopped: Know Why And What's Next Releasing Date

The release of the film was halted after the Kerala High Court imposed a 15-day stay on its theatrical screening. On February 26, a single-judge bench headed by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas passed the interim order while hearing petitions challenging the film's censor certification.

During the hearing, the court raised serious questions over the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant the movie a U/A certificate. The bench observed that the certification appeared to have been issued without a thorough examination of the film's content and directed the CBFC to review its decision within two weeks. Until this review is completed, the film cannot be released in theatres.

Are The Kerala Story 2 Tickets Booking Open?

Despite the stay order, banners and posters of The Kerala Story 2 continued to be visible on the homepages of several ticket-booking apps like BookMyShow and cinema chain websites, leading many to believe that advance bookings were still open. In fact, for a brief period, some platforms even showed booking options on Friday morning.

However, the situation has since been clarified. As of now, tickets for The Kerala Story 2 cannot be booked on any ticketing platform. Any tickets that were booked during the short window after the court order are being refunded.

The Kerala Story 2 Ticket Refunds After The Film Release Cancellation

According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), lawyers representing the petitioners opposing the film confirmed that all ticket sales were being reversed and that the movie has not been released anywhere.

Advocate Maitreyi Sachidananda Hegde, appearing for one of the petitioners, Sreedev Namboodiri, told PTI that she would not move a contempt petition against the filmmakers, as the release had been stopped and ticket refunds were underway. This statement further confirmed that the screening of the film has been fully paused nationwide.

When Will The Kerala Story 2 Release?

At present, there is no confirmed release date for The Kerala Story 2. The film's future hinges on the CBFC's review of its certification and the next hearing in the Kerala High Court. Until the court lifts the stay or issues further directions, the movie will remain unreleased.

About The Kerala Story 2

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story 2 is a sequel to the 2023 film The Kerala Story, which had also sparked widespread controversy over its subject matter.

The sequel reportedly revolves around young Hindu women who are allegedly manipulated, drawn into interfaith marriages, and then assaulted to force religious conversion-a theme that has once again drawn criticism and legal scrutiny.
