Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that the three farm laws, those that were brought to light in the last year, are going to be withdrawn. PM Modi has also requested Indian farmers, who were protesting across the nation, to go back to their homes. PM Modi said, "Today I want to tell everyone that we have decided to repeal all three farm laws." The constitutional process to withdraw these three farm laws will be completed within a month.

The three laws were the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance, Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
These three laws have been at the center of the Indian economy since the past year, and have been both criticized and appreciated by different economists, and analysts. The government earlier stated that these laws will liberalize the Indian agri-sector, while the farmers will be able to sell their products in larger markets, with better prices. But the farmers had identified that these laws do not guarantee any minimum support price (MSP) and they will eventually be exploited by big corporates.
The three laws were introduced in the Parliament in September 2020, since then farmers went on the road to protest. States like Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi have seen most of the outbreaks, while South Indian states also joined in the movement. Apart from farmers, many teachers, students, and other common people also supported the farmers' movement from India, and abroad.
PM Modi added, "Our government is committed to farmers' welfare, especially small farmers. We are committed to serving them fully. We brought in farm laws with good intentions."
