The first-ever train route connecting Bengaluru to the city's sole airport-Kempegowda International Airport- begins operations on 4 January.

"This will go a long way in enhancing last-mile connectivity to Bengaluru airport, benefit lakhs of people and reduce the traffic congestion drastically," said Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal, in a tweet with pictures of the newly launched railway station.
The route, which will be run and maintained by the South Western Railway is going to be the faster non-road alternative for many passengers to reach the metro city's airport. There are currently five trains that are scheduled to run between the city and the airport halt station for the next few months at fares as low as Rs 10-15. The road alternatives are KSRTC-run buses that cost at least Rs 250 from major parts of the city and cabs that charge at least Rs 700.
A train will leave City Railway Station at 4:45 am and 9 pm. From Yehlanka, Yeshwantpur and Bangalore Cantonment stations, trains are currently scheduled to leave at 7 am, 8:30 am and 5:55 pm, respectively.
From the airport, trains will leave at 6:43 pm and 10:37 pm for Majestic, and 6:22 am, 7:45 am and 8:21 am for Yelahanka, Bangalore Cantonment and Yeshwantpur stations, respectively.
The train timings have been scheduled in consultation with the airport authority so as to primarily benefit hundreds of airport staff.
Shuttle buses managed by the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) will operate to take the passengers to the terminal.
