Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited US President Donald Trump to Moscow for discussions on the Ukraine conflict, following a productive summit in Alaska where both leaders engaged in extensive talks. The summit aimed to address key issues surrounding peace and cooperation in the ongoing war.
No solid deal came through the much-anticipated U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin's discussion last night.
Russian President Putin extended an invitation to US President Donald Trump to visit Moscow for future discussions on the Ukraine conflict. This offer came a press conference following their summit in Alaska. "Next time in Moscow," Putin said to Trump, who responded with interest despite anticipating some criticism for such a visit.

The summit in Alaska between Trump and Putin was marked by a joint press conference where no questions were taken from journalists. The leaders had engaged in three hours of discussions focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine, which Russia initiated in 2022.
Focus on Peace and Cooperation
Putin emphasized the need for Ukraine and its European allies to avoid creating barriers to peace. He expressed hope that Kyiv and European capitals would act constructively and not disrupt progress through provocations or secretive actions.
Trump described his meeting with Putin as "very productive," noting that they reached agreements on many points concerning the Ukraine war. However, he acknowledged that a few issues remained unresolved but was optimistic about finding solutions.
Constructive Dialogue
Putin praised the talks with Trump as "constructive" and "mutually respectful." He highlighted the thoroughness and usefulness of their discussions, which took place in a positive atmosphere.
The joint press conference followed three hours of intensive talks between Trump and Putin. The Kremlin confirmed the conclusion of these discussions, which aimed at resolving Europe's deadliest conflict in decades.
High-Stakes Summit
The meeting between Trump and Putin was seen as pivotal for determining the future of the Russia-Ukraine war and European security. It offered Trump an opportunity to demonstrate his negotiating skills while providing Putin a chance to solidify Russia's gains.
In preparation for the summit, Anchorage experienced heightened activity with hotels fully booked and cab services stretched thin. Temporary flight restrictions were also implemented around Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, where the meeting took place.
Expectations from Talks
The Kremlin anticipated that the summit would last at least six to seven hours, expecting productive outcomes from this high-level engagement. Meanwhile, Trump expressed his desire for a rapid ceasefire, stating he would be displeased if it didn't happen soon.
If the talks did not proceed well, Trump mentioned he would quickly return home. However, if successful, he planned to contact Ukrainian President Zelensky and European leaders to discuss further steps.
Zelensky's Perspective
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Moscow continued its aggressive actions even on the day of negotiations. He stressed the importance of the Alaska summit paving the way for substantive talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the US.
Ahead of their meeting, Trump warned Putin of severe economic consequences if Russia showed no interest in de-escalating tensions. He emphasized that his efforts were aimed at saving lives rather than personal gain.
