The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has joined hands with Behavioural Insights Limited (BIT), a behavioural research organisation, to make the Aadhaar biometric update process smoother for children. These updates include fresh fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, ensuring that children's biometric records remain accurate and current.
UIDAI Simplifies Aadhaar Biometric Updates
Aadhaar is one of the most essential identity documents in India today, required for various services ranging from bank account openings and KYC verification to ration card transactions and identity proof for government and non-government services. Biometric updates are critical as fingerprints and other biometric features can change over time, which may cause difficulties in authentication during transactions.

UIDAI urges Aadhaar holders, especially children to complete mandatory biometric updates to avoid service disruptions. This initiative focuses on the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU), which is required for every child at the ages of 5 and 15.
New Online Aadhaar Update Facility
UIDAI has announced that cardholders can now update key Aadhaar details-such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number-directly through the UIDAI portal. This eliminates the need to visit enrolment centres. Submitted information will be digitally verified using government-issued documents like PAN cards, passports, driving licences, and ration cards, ensuring both speed and accuracy.
Aadhaar-PAN Card Linking Deadline
In another major update, the government has mandated that all PAN cards must be linked with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025. PAN cards not linked by this deadline will be deactivated starting January 1, 2026. New PAN applicants will also be required to complete Aadhaar-based verification during the application process, ensuring compliance with government regulations.
Simplified Aadhar Card Digital KYC for Banking and Financial Services
UIDAI has also introduced simplified digital Know Your Customer (KYC) processes for banks and financial institutions. Users can now verify their identity through video KYC, Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, or in-person verification if required. This new system aims to make banking and financial transactions more secure and convenient.
Revised Service Fees for Aadhaar Updates
Effective November 1, 2025, UIDAI has revised the fees for Aadhaar services. Aadhaar reprints will cost Rs 40, biometric updates Rs 125, and demographic updates Rs 75. The updated fee structure ensures affordable access while covering the operational costs of providing these services.
