After winning India's election for the third consecutive time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government will present the Union Budget of 2024 anytime in July. With Budget FY25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be creating a new history. She will become the first finance minister to present the most budget in India, breaking the record of Morarji Desai.
Sitharaman has taken charge of leading the Finance Ministry since 2019. Since then she has already presented six Union Budgets. The 2024 Budget will be her seventh, highest by any finance minister.

Earlier, the highest record of presenting the Union Budget was held by Morarji Desai who was Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister in Indira Gandhi's cabinet, until 1969. He has presented six Union Budgets so far. He also served as fourth Prime Minister of India between 1977 to 1979 with a government known as the Janata Party.
Coming to Sitharaman, she is a Rajya Sabha member, representing Karnataka since 2016. She earlier represented Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2016. She also served as the 28th Defence Minister from 2017 to 2019, thereby becoming India's second female defence minister and the second female finance minister after Indira Gandhi, and the first full-time female minister to hold each of those portfolios, as per Wikipedia.
She ranked 36th in the Forbes 2022 list of World's 100 most powerful women. While she was named by Fortune as the most powerful woman of India earlier.
During his oath ceremony speech, Modi hinted that in his third term focus will be on the upper middle and middle class.
In his speech, Modi said, "We will continue to ensure the welfare of our people, and will continue to deliver 'quality of life' to all." Also, he added that in the next 10 years, good governance, development, quality of life and I am determined to reduce government interference in people's lives.
As per reports, the Union Budget 2024 is likely to be held on July 22.
In the interim Budget of 2024-24, Sitharaman said, that the Indian economy has witnessed profound positive
transformation in the last ten years. The people of India are looking ahead to the future with hope and optimism.
She announced in February that the government's vision for 'Viksit Bharat' is that of a "Prosperous Bharat in harmony with nature, with modern infrastructure, and providing opportunities for all citizens and all regions to reach their potential".
"With confidence arising from a strong and exemplary track record of performance and progress earning 'Sabka Vishwas', the next five years will be years of unprecedented development, and golden moments to realize the dream of developed India @ 2047. The trinity of demography, democracy and diversity backed by 'Sabka Prayas' has the potential to fulfil aspirations of every Indian," she had said.
