Projects worth Rs 1 crore in the renewable energy sector are set to commence in Uttar Pradesh, according to Additional Chief Secretary for Renewable Energy Mahesh Gupta. The state received investment proposals worth about Rs 7.50 lakh crore during the UP Global Investors Summit earlier this year.
In a significant development, Uttar Pradesh (UP) is set to launch renewable energy projects worth Rs 1 crore. This announcement was made by the Additional Chief Secretary for Renewable Energy of UP, Mahesh Gupta on October 6th. The senior bureaucrat highlighted that these projects are part of the state's strategic efforts towards achieving India's ambitious target of net zero carbon emissions by 2070.

The statement came during Gupta's visit to the 16th edition of the Renewable Energy India Expo and the first edition of Battery Show India in Greater Noida. He further revealed that during this year’s UP Global Investors Summit held in Lucknow, investment proposals amounting to approximately Rs 7.50 lakh crore were received for the renewable energy sector alone.
Renewable Energy as a Priority
Gupta underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment towards making renewable energy an important sector for India's growth. In line with this vision, he stated that multi-pronged efforts are being undertaken not only at a national level but also within states like Uttar Pradesh to reach this goal.
Uttar Pradesh’s Biofuel and Solar Energy Policy
In November 2022, Uttar Pradesh launched its biofuel and solar energy policy as part of its contribution towards sustainable development goals and reducing carbon footprint. According to Gupta, "In the Global Investors Summit this year, we received investment proposals worth Rs 7.50 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector."
This robust response from investors has given impetus to their earnest effort towards executing these proposals on ground level. He added: "Very soon, we are going to have groundbreaking of renewable energy projects worth around Rs 1 lakh crore."
Future Prospects
The forthcoming launch signifies a major stride in Uttar Pradesh's journey towards promoting renewable energy. It is a testament to the state’s commitment to harnessing clean and sustainable sources of energy, thereby contributing significantly to India's overall goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070.
In conclusion, Uttar Pradesh is making significant strides in its renewable energy sector with projects worth Rs 1 crore soon to be implemented on ground. This move will not only boost the state's green economy but also contribute substantially towards India’s target for net-zero carbon emissions. The support from investors and the government’s proactive approach are key drivers in this positive shift towards renewable energy adoption. Ultimately, such initiatives underline the importance of collective action in combating climate change and fostering sustainable development.
