UPI Outage India: Several Indians witnessed glitch during digital transaction on Wednesday evening because of a widespread UPI outage. The massive UPI outage triggered surge in complaints on Downdetector prompting actions from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Many UPI users faced inconvenience after their payment was stuck while performing online transactions on PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm or other mobile payment services applications.
As several people complained about their incomplete transactions because of UPI outage on Wednesday across India, here are the few steps they can follow in case their online payments are stuck.

UPI Payment Outage: What to do if your payment is stuck
Out of all the complaints flagged on Downdetector, Google Pay users accounted for 296 complaints. 119 complaints were reported from the Paytm application, and 376 users of the State Bank of India experienced an outage. There were also complaints of issues related to fund transfers and online banking services. Here are the key steps people must follow if their online payment is stuck in between.
-Check the transaction history of your payment application to know the status of your payment.
-If it is showing failed on your payment application and the amount has been deducted, it will be reimbursed in next 48 hours.
-If you are unable to track the status of your transaction, then don't panic and wait for 48 hours. Within this duration, your bank will update the final status of the payment.
-During this period, ensure to stay updated about any information related to your transaction received on text message or on the payment application.
-If your money is not reimbursed within 48 hours, then update your passbook and check the status of the transaction, if it is showing successful on the passbook, then raise the issue with your online payment application.
UPI Outage in India
The temporary outage in UPI payments in India led to huge chaos among people, who rely majorly on digital payments for small-ticket transactions. Many users vented out their anger on social media sparking a memefest on UPI outage.
Later, NPCI updated that the issue had been resolved and people wouldn't face any problem while making payments online.
"NPCI had faced intermittent technical issues, owing to which UPI had partial decline. The same has been addressed now, and the system has stabilised. Regret the inconvenience," the payment regulator said in a post on X.
What is UPI?
The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is the flag bearer of he 'Digital India' campaign, which heralds the country into the era of cashless payment. The RBI-regulated entity developed the UPI system over the IMPS infrastructure. With UPI, people can instantly transfer money between any two parties' bank accounts.
UPI provides a transfer facility without any user charge. Users can transfer any amount of money at any time without incurring additional fees from NPCI. UPI payments are prevalent among people for small payments at local shops as there is no minimum transaction limit. Several features like AutoPay on UPI also allows people to schedule recurring payments for bills and subscriptions to set free from the hassle of remembering payment deadlines. Major payment applications like Paytm, Google Pay, Phone Pe, and other bank applications rely on UPI for online transactions.
