The US aims to establish a lasting "best friends forever" relationship with India, and a change in the White House will not affect the ties between the two nations, stated US Ambassador Eric Garcetti on Wednesday. He emphasised that America's friendship and commitment to India will remain steadfast regardless of any political changes in the US.

Investment Opportunities in India
At the Milken Institute event, Garcetti encouraged American investors to explore opportunities in India. He highlighted that five pension funds managing USD 1.8 trillion are currently seeking investment prospects in the country. He urged Americans to invest more in India for mutual benefit, using the acronym BFF (Building Financial Futures) to underline the importance of this economic partnership.
Garcetti pointed out that India's reliance on a single country for critical supplies poses both economic and security risks. He cited India's difficulties in procuring machinery for photovoltaic cell manufacturing and essential medical equipment during the pandemic as examples of such risks. He stressed that reducing dependence on one nation is crucial for India's growth and security.
Regional Competitors and Security Risks
Without directly mentioning China, Garcetti noted that New Delhi must address regional competitors by diversifying its dependencies. He stated, "If we're overly dependent on any one country, we will all see economic risk, not just security risk." This advice underscores the need for India to mitigate risks by broadening its economic partnerships.
Garcetti also spoke about his meeting with Indian Navy officials earlier in the day, highlighting numerous opportunities for cooperation. He welcomed India's commitment to small modular reactors and identified the nuclear sector as a promising area for collaboration between the two countries.
Diplomatic Efforts and Peace Initiatives
The ambassador praised India's efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine. When asked about American officials' controversial meeting with political parties in Srinagar, he responded, "We are here to listen and learn," reaffirming that the US has consistently supported India during crises, including those involving China.
Using a popular social media phrase, Garcetti described the evolving nature of US-India relations. He said it has transitioned from being "complicated" to "definitely dating," indicating a closer and more stable partnership. He assured that this relationship would not face setbacks in the near future.
In conclusion, Garcetti's remarks reflect a strong commitment to strengthening US-India ties through increased investment, reduced dependency on single nations, and enhanced cooperation in various sectors. The ambassador's statements underscore the enduring friendship between the two countries amidst changing global dynamics.
