The US-India Business Council (USIBC) has extended its congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) following their victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections. This win marks a significant moment for Modi, who is set to lead the government for a third consecutive term. The BJP-led NDA secured a majority in the Lok Sabha, overcoming challenges in three key Hindi heartland states. The Election Commission of India announced the results for 542 of the 543 constituencies, with the BJP claiming 240 seats and the Congress securing 99.

Atul Keshap, President and CEO of the USIBC, praised the electoral process and the Indian populace for their commitment to democracy. "India's national election is truly impressive as the greatest exercise of electoral choice in the history of our species," Keshap remarked. He further expressed eagerness to collaborate with Prime Minister Modi, his Cabinet, and all of India's elected officials to enhance trade and investment ties between India and the United States.
Despite winning 240 seats, the BJP fell short of the 272 majority mark, necessitating support from its allies within the NDA to form the government. This outcome contrasts with the party's performance in previous elections, where it had secured majorities on its own. However, with backing from key allies like N. Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar's JDU, along with other partners, the NDA successfully crossed the halfway mark with approximately 290 seats.
The elections also underscored a resurgence for the Congress party under Rahul Gandhi's leadership and highlighted the Samajwadi Party's significant impact in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress improved its tally from 52 seats in 2019 to 99, making notable gains in Rajasthan and Haryana. The opposition INDIA bloc collectively won over 230 seats.
Keshap lauded India's dedication to democratic values, stating that the nation has once again demonstrated its profound respect for democracy and human freedom. Indian-American community leader Ajay Jain Bhutoria also congratulated Modi on his historic win, emphasizing it as a reflection of India's robust democratic foundation.
Bhutoria highlighted India's potential for economic growth under Modi's leadership, projecting that it is on course to become the world's third-largest economy. He expressed optimism about future collaborations between India and the US, anticipating a strengthened partnership under Modi and President Biden's leadership.
This election not only reaffirms Modi's leadership but also sets a promising trajectory for India's economic development and global standing. As both nations look forward to deepening their ties, the future holds great promise for enhanced prosperity and development.
