Uttarakhands 2024-25 budget, presented by CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, emphasizes holistic and inclusive development, focusing on the welfare of the poor, youth, women, and farmers. With a 15.27% increase from last year, the budget allocates significant funds for various sectors, including poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, education, and agriculture.
On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented the state's 2024-25 Budget, describing it as holistic, inclusive, balanced, and development-oriented. The budget, amounting to Rs 89,230 crore, marks a significant 15.27% increase compared to the previous year.

Key Highlights of the Budget
1. Welfare of the Poor
The budget allocates a substantial Rs 5,658 crore for the welfare of the poor. This includes Rs 93 crore for housing, Rs 600 crore for foodgrain supply, and Rs 55 crore for free gas refills, ensuring that the most vulnerable sections of society are supported.
2. Youth Welfare and Education
Recognizing the importance of youth development, the budget sets aside Rs 1,679 crore for youth welfare, technical education, and higher education. Notably, Rs 250 crore has been earmarked for organizing national games, promoting sports and physical fitness among the youth.
3. Empowering Women
The budget demonstrates a strong commitment to gender equality, with a provision of approximately Rs 14,538 crore for the gender budget. This includes initiatives such as Nanda Gaura, Chief Minister Mahalaxmi Yojana, Chief Minister Vatsalya Yojana, and Ganga Cow Mahila Dairy Development Scheme, empowering women and fostering their socio-economic development.
4. Support for Farmers
The budget acknowledges the significance of agriculture and allocates Rs 2,415 crore for the farming sector. Special attention has been given to schemes such as Deendayal Upadhyaya Cooperative Farmers Welfare Scheme, Mission Apple, Farmer Pension, and Chief Minister Matsya Sampada Yojana, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity and support farmers' livelihoods.
5. Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction
Uttarakhand's economic growth rate has been impressive, standing at 7.63% in the year 2022-23, surpassing the national average. The state's per capita income has also witnessed a significant rise of 12%, reaching over Rs 2.60 lakh in 2023-24. Furthermore, according to the Multidimensional Poverty Index released by NITI Aayog, more than 9.17 lakh people in the state have successfully risen above the poverty line, reflecting the positive impact of various welfare initiatives.
Uttarakhand's 2024-25 Budget reflects a comprehensive and inclusive approach, prioritizing the welfare of the poor, youth, women, and farmers. By allocating substantial funds to key sectors and implementing innovative schemes, the budget aims to drive economic growth, reduce poverty, and enhance the overall well-being of the state's citizens.
