Web Werks and Iron Mountain's joint venture will invest Rs 1,800 crore to build two data centers in Chennai by mid-2025. The new facilities will adhere to Tier III standards with a combined IT load capacity of 36 megawatts.
Web Werks, in a joint venture with Iron Mountain Data Centers, has announced their plans to invest Rs 1,800 crore for the establishment of two new data centers in Chennai. The project will be located on a four-acre land parcel acquired by the partnership in Ambattur, situated within the district of Chennai. These upcoming facilities have been named CHE-1 and CHE-2.
Investment Details

The investment worth more than Rs 1,800 crore will be disbursed in phases until mid-2025 when both data centers are expected to become fully operational. This information was disclosed by Nikhil Rathi, Founder and CEO of Web Werks Data Centers during an official statement released on Monday.
Data Center Specifications
The two data centers are designed according to Tier III standards and will support an IT load of 36 megawatts. This expansion significantly boosts the company's rapidly growing pan-India footprint which is projected to support over 90 megawatts of new development across key markets including Pune, Bangalore, Noida, Mumbai and Hyderabad as per the statement from Web Werks.
Geographic Advantage
Rathi highlighted that Ambattur was chosen as it lies at a geographical high point which makes it safe from floods. He further emphasized that this strategic location adds value to their initiative while ensuring uninterrupted services even during extreme weather conditions.
Aiming for Digital Transformation
The CEO also mentioned that their pan-India expansion is primarily focused on supporting customers through digital transformations while leveraging rapid digital growth. As India continues its journey towards digitization at breakneck speed, reliable data center infrastructure becomes crucially important. By establishing these facilities in key locations across India, Web Werks aims not just to anticipate but also meet this increasing demand for data center services.
In conclusion, the joint venture between Web Werks and Iron Mountain Data Centers is an ambitious project that aims to boost India's digital infrastructure. This investment not only signifies the growing demand for data centers but also indicates the companies' commitment towards supporting India's digital transformation journey. As we move forward in this digitized era, these developments will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable and robust digital services across the country.
