West Bengal 2026 Assembly Elections are on the way and the Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a crucial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 of the electoral roll across 12 states and Union Territories. The exercise officially began today November 4th, starting a large-scale voter verification drive that will continue until December 9th , when the draft electoral list will be published. The final electoral roll is scheduled for release on February 7.

Benefits of SIR 2025
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is being conducted to maintain the accuracy of India's voter rolls. According to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the ECI has received repeated complaints from political parties regarding discrepancies in the electoral roll including duplicate registrations.
This exercise is particularly important for West Bengal, as it will determine the base of eligible voters ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Voters are urged to verify their names against the 2002 electoral roll between November 4 and December 9 to ensure inclusion in the draft list.

You can check your voter information on: Voter Services Portal, Electoral Search Portal, Voter Helpline App which is available on Android & iOS.
Documents Accepted for Voter Verification

What If Your Name Is Missing from the 2002 SIR List?
If your name or that of your parents or relatives does not appear in the 2002 Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter roll, there's no need to panic. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has put in place a process to help eligible citizens get their names included in the updated list. In such cases, the ECI will issue a formal notice asking you to establish your eligibility for inclusion in the electoral roll.
You will need to submit valid documents that verify your identity, age, and place of residence. Once you provide these documents, election officials will review and verify your details. After successful verification, your name will be added to the draft electoral roll, which will later be incorporated into the final voter list to be published on February 7, 2026. This ensures that you retain your right to vote in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.
