Investors and traders should take note that the Indian stock market, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), will remain closed on Friday, March 14, 2025, in observance of Holi, one of the biggest festivals in India. This means that all trading activities, including equity, equity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments, will be halted for the day. Regular trading in the stock market will resume on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Upcoming Stock Market Holidays in March 2025
Apart from Holi, Indian stock markets will also remain closed on Monday, March 31, 2025, for Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id). This will be the second stock market holiday of the month. In the next month i.e April Stock market will have three holidays on the account of Shri Mahavir Jayanti which will be observed on Thursday, April 10, 2025, followed by Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti on Monday, April 14, 2025, and Good Friday on Friday, April 18, 2025.

For investors in commodities and currency trading, it is essential to check the respective holiday schedules of the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), as their trading hours may vary.
Impact of the Stock Market Holiday
Stock market holidays are important for investors as they help in planning trades and managing portfolios effectively. Since there will be no trading activity on March 14, those involved in short-term trading or intraday strategies should adjust their positions accordingly before the holiday. Moreover, the multi-day settlement cycle (T+1) of stock transactions means that trades executed just before the holiday may see a delay in processing.
Bank Holiday on Holi 2025: Are Banks Open or Closed?
Banks in several states will remain closed on Holi 2025, which falls on Friday, March 14. Additionally, with the second Saturday (March 15) and Sunday (March 16) following, certain regions will experience a four-day banking closure from March 13 to March 16. While some states observe Holika Dahan on March 13 (Thursday) as a holiday, major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru will see closures on March 15 and 16 (Saturday & Sunday), whereas cities like Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Jaipur will remain closed from March 14 to 16 (Friday to Sunday). Although branch banking services will be unavailable, customers can still access online banking, ATMs, and mobile banking for transactions. To avoid disruptions, it is advisable to withdraw cash in advance and complete important financial transactions before March 13.
