Xiaomis new business strategy focuses on premiumisation, with the launch of the Xiaomi 14 series in India. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 offer high-end features and target aspirational Indian consumers.
Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi marked a significant shift in its business strategy on Thursday, March 7, with the launch of its most expensive Xiaomi 14 series smartphones in India. This move signals the company's transition towards premiumization of its product portfolio.

Premiumization, AIoT Integration, and 5G Convergence
Xiaomi India President Muralikrishanan B outlined the company's new strategy, which encompasses three key approaches. The first goal is to engage in total premiumization of the entire business, catering to the growing aspirations of Indian consumers with higher disposable incomes. Secondly, Xiaomi aims to drive and integrate smartphones into the AIoT (artificial intelligence-based Internet of Things) ecosystem, capitalizing on the convergence of various devices in the 5G era.
Xiaomi 14 Series: A Step Towards Premiumization
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra, priced at Rs 99,999, and the Xiaomi 14, priced at Rs 59,999, represent Xiaomi's foray into the premium smartphone segment in India. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra boasts a professional 50-megapixel quad-camera setup, 1.6 days of usage supported by a 5000 mAh battery, 16 GB system memory, and 512 GB internal storage capacity. The mass sale of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will commence from April 12, while the Xiaomi 14 will go on mass sale from March 11.
Collaboration with Leica and Market Leadership
Xiaomi has collaborated with German high-end camera company Leica for the Xiaomi 14 series, enhancing the camera capabilities of its devices. The company's strategic moves come at a time when it leads the smartphone market in India, according to Cybermedia Research. Xiaomi held the top position in the December 2023 quarter, while Samsung maintained its dominance as the market leader for the entire calendar year.
Xiaomi's shift towards premiumization and its focus on AIoT integration and 5G convergence position the company to tap into the aspirations of Indian consumers and maintain its leadership position in the smartphone market. The launch of the Xiaomi 14 series marks a significant milestone in Xiaomi's journey to become the most preferred and pioneering smartphone and AIoT brand for aspiring Indians.
