New Delhi, Mar 19 - In a significant move towards enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) development in India, Hiranandani Group's data centre firm, Yotta Data Services, has secured the first tranche of 4,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) from Nvidia. This acquisition marks a pivotal step for Yotta Data Services as it aims to expand its GPU inventory to 32,768 units by the end of 2025. The company's NM1 data center recently welcomed the world's fastest GPUs – NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs – setting a new benchmark in AI development capabilities within the country.

Received by Sunil Gupta, Co-founder, MD & CEO of Yotta Data Services, on March 14th, this first cluster of over 4,000 GPUs underscores the company's commitment to driving AI innovation. The increasing reliance on GPU-based servers for accelerated computing highlights their ability to process data at superior speeds compared to traditional CPU-based servers. This technological advancement is crucial as the global competition for AI development intensifies, leading to a notable shortage of GPUs worldwide.
Industry insights reveal that Nvidia currently leads the GPU market with an approximate 88 per cent share. However, acquiring GPUs from the company poses a challenge due to a 12-18 month lag attributed to soaring global demand. Gupta emphasized that Yotta's initiative would empower Indian businesses, government entities, startups, and researchers to expedite innovation and efficiency, thereby contributing significantly to India's stature in the global AI landscape.
Furthermore, the Indian Cabinet's endorsement of the India AI Mission with an allocation of Rs 10,372 crore over five years is a testament to the nation's dedication to fostering AI development. This mission aims to bolster supercomputing capacity across India by making over 10,000 GPUs available to various stakeholders, thereby nurturing a robust AI ecosystem.
The strategic deployment of NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs at Yotta Data Services' NM1 data center not only enhances India's AI development infrastructure but also positions the country as a key player in the global race towards technological supremacy in artificial intelligence.
