The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) that manages the well-known dairy brand Amul, also known as Anand Milk Union Limited, said on Wednesday that all Amul milk variants nationwide will see price hikes of Rs 2 per litre starting on May 1 (Thursday). This followed Mother Dairy's announcement that milk prices would rise by up to Rs 2 per litre beginning on April 30, 2025.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) stated in a release that a hike of Rs 2 in the Amul milk prices corresponds to a 3-4% increase in MRP (maximum retail price), which is far less than the average rate of food inflation.
According to the statement, a 500ml packet of Amul Gold milk would now cost Rs 34 after the rise, while a 500ml "Shakti" variety will cost Rs 31 in Gujarat. This declaration highlights the federation's efforts to maintain their products within the reach of ordinary consumers while balancing the necessity for a price adjustment. By increasing prices, GCMMF hopes to cover a range of production and operating expenses while keeping the rise within affordable limits for its customers.
On the other hand, Mother Dairy announced that milk prices would rise by much to Rs 2 per liter beginning on April 30, 2025, in reaction to rising input costs. The goal of this move is to address the substantial spike in procurement costs, which have shot up by Rs 4-5 per liter in recent months.
In the Delhi-NCR area, Mother Dairy toned milk (bulk vended) is now priced at Rs 56 per litre, rising from Rs 54, and Mother Dairy full cream milk (pouched) is now priced at Rs 69 per litre, compared to Rs 68 earlier. Toned milk (pouched) will now cost Rs 57 per litre as opposed to the old rate of Rs 56, while Mother Dairy double-toned milk will cost Rs 51 per litre, up from Rs 49. Additionally, the price of cow milk has increased, going from Rs 57 to Rs 59 per liter.
Located in Anand, Gujarat, Amul, additionally referred to as Anand Milk Union Limited, is an Indian dairy company. The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF) is in charge of its management. It was established in 1946. In India, Amul is one of the top producers of dairy-related products, chocolates, bread spreads, and health beverages.
