SBI Card will implement new fees on education payments and wallet loads starting November 2025. Cardholders should review changes to avoid unexpected charges and maintain good credit scores.
SBI Card has announced changes to its fee structure, effective from 1 November 2025. These updates will impact specific transactions, including education-related payments and wallet loads. Cardholders are advised to review these changes thoroughly to avoid unexpected charges and ensure timely payments for maintaining a good credit score.

SBI Card will impose a 1% fee on education payments made through third-party apps like CRED, Cheq, and MobiKwik. However, this charge does not apply to direct payments made to educational institutions via their official websites or on-site POS machines.
Wallet Load Transactions
A 1% fee will also be charged on wallet load transactions exceeding Rs 1,000. This applies to transactions identified under specific merchant codes. The Merchant Category Codes (MCC) for education payments include MCC 8211, 8220, 8241, 8244, 8249, and 8299.
The MCCs for wallet load transactions are defined by network partners and may change without prior notice to customers. These changes will be implemented based on communication from the networks.
Additional SBI Card Charges
Several other fees remain unchanged. For cash payments, SBI Card charges Rs 250. A dishonour fee of 2% of the payment amount is levied if a payment is dishonoured, with a minimum charge of Rs 500.
The cheque payment fee stands at Rs 200. Cash advances at SBI ATMs and other domestic ATMs incur a fee of 2.5% of the transaction amount, with a minimum of Rs 500. International ATM cash advances have the same percentage fee and minimum charge.
Card Replacement Fees
The card replacement fee ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 250. For Aurum cards, the replacement fee is Rs 1,500. In emergencies abroad, the actual cost is charged with a minimum of $175 for Visa and $148 for Mastercard.
Late payment charges vary based on the outstanding amount if the Minimum Amount Due (MAD) is not paid by the due date:
| Outstanding Amount | Late Payment Charge |
|---|---|
| Rs 0 – Rs 500 | Nil |
| > Rs 500 – Rs 1,000 | Rs 400 |
| > Rs 1,000 – Rs 10,000 | Rs 750 |
| > Rs 10,000 – Rs 25,000 | Rs 950 |
| > Rs 25,000 – Rs 50,000 | Rs 1,100 |
| > Rs 50,000 | Rs 1,300 |
If MAD remains unpaid for two consecutive billing cycles, an additional charge of Rs 100 will apply each cycle until cleared.
SBI Cardholders should stay informed about these updates to manage their finances effectively and avoid unnecessary fees.
