YouTube Down? Users in US, India Face ‘Something Went Wrong' Error; Services Now Restored

A major YouTube outage disrupted video access for business users, creators, and casual viewers across multiple countries, including the United States and India, after the platform failed to load properly and displayed a "something went wrong" error. The disruption affected the YouTube app, website, homepage recommendations, YouTube Music, and YouTube Kids, leaving millions unable to watch videos or access normal content.

Parent company Google later confirmed that the YouTube down incident was linked to a technical failure in the platform's recommendations system, which prevented videos from appearing across several YouTube surfaces.

In an official update, Google said the YouTube homepage had started working again, but teams were still working on a complete fix, indicating that full restoration of services could take more time. Despite partial recovery, many users continued reporting access problems across devices.

Downdetector Data Shows Scale Of YouTube Outage

Outage-tracking platform Downdetector showed a YouTube outage. According to the website in India the reports crossed 18,000 users at 6:42 am IST where 71% reported app-related disruptions & 18% flagged live streaming issues. The outage affected both entertainment viewing and professional video usage.

The disruption extended beyond the core platform the YouTube TV logged 8,923 issue reports and Google services recorded 2,694 related complaints

Downdetector noted that YouTube TV problems began around 8 PM globally which was a prolonged outage window for users relying on streaming news, sports, and business channels.

Services Are Now Restored

YouTube services have now been restored and are working normally across both mobile apps and the website. Users can now resume video streaming, live viewing, and content access without errors. While Google has brought the platform back online, the global YouTube outage has the massive worldwide impact that even short-term disruptions in major digital infrastructure can have on creators, businesses, educators, and everyday viewers.
