If you're planning to invest in mutual funds in 2025, there are many top-performing schemes across large-cap, mid-cap, small-cap, and sectoral categories that have stood out with strong returns for investors. While mutual funds are subject to risk, investors should assess all aspects before putting in their hard-earned money.

These funds are backed by disciplined fund management and favourable market trends while performing consistently and are known to have long-term growth potential.
1. Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund
The Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund is currently ranked among the best-performing mutual funds in India for 2025. With an impressive AUM of Rs. 34,749 crore, the fund has delivered consistent high returns due to its investments in mid-sized companies with strong growth potential.
2. Nippon India Small Cap Fund
The Nippon India Small Cap Fund is one of India's top mutual funds, with a huge 36.71% CAGR over the past five years and a massive AUM of Rs. 50,826 crore. This fund has been a standout performer in the small-cap category because of its well-diversified portfolio of high-growth companies. It should also be noted that small-cap funds carry higher risks.
3. ICICI Prudential Infrastructure Fund
The ICICI Prudential Infrastructure Fund has gained popularity, as this fund has an AUM of Rs. 7,863 crore. This sectoral fund invests in companies involved in construction, capital goods, and allied industries expected to benefit from the government's capital expenditure push. The fund has delivered good returns in recent quarters.
4. HDFC Focused 30 Fund
The HDFC Focused 30 Fund offers a concentrated investment approach, holding a maximum of 30 high-quality stocks across large and mid-cap segments. With an AUM of Rs. 18,559 crore and a return of nearly 15.9%, this fund focuses on fundamentally strong companies with competitive advantages.
5. Invesco India Midcap Fund
The Invesco India Midcap Fund has delivered consistent performance with a 15.3% annual return in recent years and is among the top mid-cap mutual funds in India for 2025.
Mutual Fund Trends for 2025
In 2025, mutual fund investments in India are growing at a very fast pace, especially through SIPs, or Systematic Investment Plans, as more people are gaining confidence in long-term investing. Mid-cap and small-cap funds have given the best returns this year, but they also come with higher risk and market ups and downs. On the other hand, large-cap and focused funds are considered safer and offer more steady returns.
According to a recent Motilal Oswal report, the total Assets Under Management (AUM) of India's mutual fund industry, which had touched an all-time high of Rs. 75.4 lakh crore in July 2025, saw a slight dip in August 2025, slipping 0.2% month-on-month to Rs. 75.2 lakh crore.
The decline was mainly because of lower AUM in equity funds and liquid funds (other ETFs and gilt funds). However, some categories showed positive growth, like Gold ETFs, which rose by Rs. 4,900 crore; income funds, which increased by Rs. 3,600 crore; balanced funds, by Rs. 2,500 crore; and arbitrage funds, by Rs. 2,200 crore compared to the previous month.
Interestingly, Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) inflows were strong, with investors contributing Rs. 28,270 crore in August 2025, showing a 20% year-on-year rise, even though it was down marginally 0.7% month-on-month.
