In a major update for Aadhaar card holders, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning to bring an all-in-one mobile application to update information like address, name, date of birth, etc on Aadhaar card. UIDAI is developing the mobile application, which is being called as E-Aadhaar as of now.
E-Aadhaar To Launch Soon! What Are The Key Features?
The new application related to Aadhaar update will let card holders to update most of their details at the comfort of their homes. Till now, around 2,000 of the one lakh machines have been shifted to the new tool, UIDAI chief executive officer Bhuvnesh Kumar told Times of India.

The new E-Aadhaar application will have the facility of changing addresses, phone numbers, name change and even the option to correct wrong date of birth, reported ToI earlier.
There has been no official confirmation from UIDAI about an E-Aadhaar application. Few months ago, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had rolled out a new portal, Aadhaar Good Governance Portal to ease the process of Aadhaar authentication request approvals.
The new portal would help the government in making the whole Aadhaar process easier and convenient. It will also ease the process to make it more inclusive. The portal would expedite the submission and approval of authentication requests making the process more efficient and accessible.
QR Code-Based Verification
To minimise the scope of Aadhaar misuse, the UIDAI will also bring QR code-based verification. As per ToI report, the QR code-based transfer of Aadhaar will minimise the chances of preventing misuse and allow mobile-to-mobile or app-to-app sharing for various purposes like hotel check-ins, and identity verification on trains.
With the implementation of this facility, Aadhaar card users would be able to share their Aadhaar card. Apart from formulating a safer method for Aadhaar details transmission, UIDAI is also working with various players like security agencies, hotels, for covering entities that are not mandated to use Aadhaar. Additionally, attempts are underway to collaborate with CBSE and other boards for biometric and other data updation of children.
Using Aadhaar For Preventing Property Fraud
The new system would also be used at the time of property registrations which is highly vulnerable for frauds related to property purchases. UIDAI is reportedly urging state governments to verify credentials of property buyers and sellers using Aadhaar cards during the process to prevent fraudulent activities, according to ToI. UIDAI is also engaging with security agencies and hotels to cover entities not mandated to use Aadhaar currently. This expansion seeks to enhance security measures across various sectors by integrating Aadhaar into their verification processes.
What is Aadhaar?
Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number which also serves as a proof of identity and proof of address for Indian residents. The document contains important credentials like name, address, gender, and age of the card holders. Aadhaar card holders are also required to provide their biometric details (including Iris, fingerprint, etc). Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident in India and satisfies the verification process laid down by the UIDAI can enrol for Aadhaar.
