The annualized returns from SBI Contra Fund is nearly 30%, while the absolute returns are nearly 120%. The equity holdings of the fund is 80%, which largely comprises stocks like GAIL, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank among others. It is interesting to see GAIL among the top holdings of the fund. There are about 72 stocks in the portfolio and about 38% is invested in large cap stocks.

It is also advisable to go for SIPs, as lumpsum investment means you should be willing to take a risk. The expense ratio of SBI Contra Fund is around that 1% mark, which is more or less at par with what others are showing. If you are looking at starting SIP, the monthly SIP of Rs 500 is possible, while the minimum lumpsum amount is Rs 5000.
