International debit cards are used to make payments when you are abroad or one can use to make online payments for purchase in a different country unlike domestic debit cards.
How to Know if you have an international debit card?
If your debit card has Mastereo, Visa or PLUS logo on the card means that the card can be used abroad where the ATM machine has same logo.
However, one can check with your bank before doing any transaction. Here are things to know about your international debit card:
International debit card can be used to make payments in local currencies, so nothing much to worry of currency conversion. It will allow you to withdraw local cash from ATM where the ATM machine has Mastereo, Visa or PLUS logo as on your card. However banks will charge for the same. Money will be debited immediately from the linked account. No need to worry about the statement as in case of credit card. There is no need to carry cash as you can swipe your card at merchant outlets. It can be beneficial if you are traveling for different countries at a stretch. Check for zero liability feature available on your card which protects from unauthorised use of your Debit Card. Most of the banks have offers and discounts for using international debit card such as cash back, fuel surcharge waiver and insurance cover. If you use your card abroad, there will be fee of 3.5 per cent as foreign currency markup fee + Service tax on this markup fee. There can be a charge around 1-4 per cent every time you carry out cash withdrawal. Note that there will be a extra charge of service tax on the fee or charge.
