If you are a Non Resident Indian (NRI) it is necessary to have a PAN Card, if you need to file income tax returns. Means that if you have taxable income in India you need to have a PAN Card.

NRIs may need Pan card for various transactions such as:

• NRIs need PAN card when buying and selling shares
• NRIs need PAN card to invest in Mutual funds
• NRIs need PAN Card while Buying property in India
• NRIs need PAN Card while Buying property in India

How can NRI apply for PAN card in India?

1. Non-citizens of India should only use Form 49AA
2. Applicant should provide only International Taxation AO code. If the AO code is not known then a default AO code of international taxation under Delhi RCC (DLC-C-35-1) may be provided.
3. After filling the form and submitting
4. An acknowledgement will be displayed. The acknowledgement will contain a unique 15-digit acknowledgement number
5. The applicant is requested to save and print this acknowledgement.
6. Individual' applicants should affix two recent colour photographs with white background (size 3.5 cm x 2.5 cm)
7. NRIs should mention the address of residence address. If the address mention is abroad, the fee for processing PAN application is Rs 985.00.

If payment is made through Demand draft and cheque it should be drawn in favour of 'NSDL - PAN
Id paying online, on successful credit card / debit card / net banking payment acknowledgement will be displayed.

Applicant shall save and print the acknowledgement and send to NSDL.

The acknowledgement duly signed, affixed with photograph along with Demand Draft, if any, and proof of identity& proof of address.
