ITR Verification is an integral process of ITR filing and as per the income tax website ITR verification is to be done to complete the ITR filing process. If the process isn't completed within the due or specified time, an ITR is deemed as invalid. e-Verification is the most convenient and instant way to verify your ITR.

Recent ruling on ITR verification:
As per the latest circular, the CBDT has lessened the time limit for ITR verification from the earlier 120 days to 30 days from August 1, 2022. This is as per the CBDT notification dated July 29, 2022. However for returns filed until July 31, 2022 the previous time limit of 120 days from the date of filing or uploading the ITR shall apply. So, to complete the ITR filing process you also would need to adhere to the timeline in respect of ITR verification as else your ITR shall be deemed void.
Ways to verify your ITR
Now as you know the ITR verification process is a must to complete your ITR filing process, here are the ways to do it:
1. OTP on mobile number registered with Aadhaar:
For the following method some of the pre-requisites are that your aadhaar and mobile number should be linked and also your PAN should be linked with Aadhaar.
On the 'e-Verify' page you need to select the statement which reads 'I would like to verify using OTP on mobile number registered with Aadhaar' and click on 'Continue'. Next the pop-up shall appear on your screen and you need to choose the tick box which states 'I agree to validate my Aadhaar details' and click on 'Generate Aadhaar OTP'.
An SMS with an OTP linked to Aadhaar shall be sent to you in 6-digit with a validity of 10 minutes. On successfully entering the OTP, your ITR shall be verified and you shall receive a message as though on your registered mobile number ' Dear XYZ , ITR 1 of 2022 of PAN No has been successfully e-verified, Income tax department.
2. EVC generated through pre-validated bank account:
This process of ITR verification involves generation of EVC or electronic verification code through one's bank account. For this you also need a pre-validated bank account. This is to again put here that pre-vaidated bank account is a must for receiving income tax refund.
To go about this method, on the 'e-verify page' select 'Through bank account and click on Continue'. You will receive the EVC on your mail and mobile number linked to your pre-validated and EVC-enabled bank account. Now you need to enter this EVC and click on e-Verify.
3. Offline route: For ITR verification through the offline process after you are done with the filing of ITR, you need to download ITR-V which is the acknowledgement receipt. Now this duly signed or verified ITR-V needs to be sent to the CPC, Income Tax Dept, Bengaluru-560500, Karnataka in the prescribed manner by speed or ordinary post.
Further as per the new circular of the CBDT, for the purpose of determining the 30-day period from the ITR filing date, the date of speed post of the verified ITR-V shall be taken into account. On receiving the ITR-V, the CPC-ITD shall send a confirmation of receipt to the e-mail ID registered in the e-filing account.
