The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch a new Aadhaar app by December 2025 tentatively. The new Aadhaar app is expected to make Aadhaar management more convenient, secure, and user-friendly.
The Aadhaar card, issued by UIDAI, is one of the most important documents for Indian citizens, used in everything from opening bank accounts to accessing government subsidies and private services.

With the new UIDAI Aadhaar app, users will soon be able to update their details, download Aadhaar, order PVC cards, and verify identity digitally, all from the comfort of their homes. However, one critical update Changing your Aadhaar-linked mobile number will still require a visit to the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra for biometric authentication.
What You Can Do with the New Aadhaar App
The upgraded app, sometimes referred to as the "e-Aadhaar app", has been designed to integrate modern technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), face ID authentication, and QR code verification. Here are the key features expected:
AI and Face ID login features that will help secure Aadhaar access through facial recognition and biometric-based authentication.
- You can also update personal details like name, address, and date of birth directly through the app.
- QR Code Verification will help instantly scan and verify Aadhaar details to prevent fraud or use of fake Aadhaar cards.
- The new Aadhaar app can be used to share Aadhaar information securely online with consent, minimising the need for physical photocopies.
- You can also check Aadhaar status, view update history, and order PVC Aadhaar cards for doorstep delivery.
What You Still Need to Visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra For
While the new Aadhaar app will handle most Aadhaar-related tasks, updating your Aadhaar-registered mobile number will still require an in-person visit. This is because mobile number linking is highly sensitive and demands biometric verification to prevent misuse.
To update your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, you must:
- Visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
- Fill out the correction/update form.
- Provide your biometrics for verification.
- After successful verification, the new number is linked within a few days.
As per reports, the pilot testing of the new Aadhaar app has already been completed. Based on user feedback, UIDAI is fine-tuning the platform.
The new Aadhaar app launch in 2025 is part of UIDAI's efforts to enhance digital identity management in India. Currently, the mAadhaar app offers some services like address updates and Aadhaar downloads, but users often face limitations. The upcoming app will provide a more modern, secure, and AI-powered experience, helping millions of citizens manage Aadhaar-related services without long queues at service centres.
