YES Bank has announced revisions to its domestic airport lounge access policy for all YES Bank credit cardholders. These changes, set to take effect on April 1, 2024, mirror similar adjustments made by other leading banks in 2023, including HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank, and SBI Card, aimed at managing costs associated with lounge access benefits.
Under the new terms, Yes Bank credit cardholders will now need to meet a minimum spending requirement of Rs 10,000 or more in a calendar quarter to unlock complimentary access to domestic airport lounges. This spending threshold must be reached in the preceding quarter to qualify for lounge access in the subsequent quarter, providing cardholders with an opportunity to plan their expenses strategically.

For example, to qualify for complimentary lounge access in the April-June 2024 quarter, cardholders must have spent a minimum of Rs 10,000 between December 21, 2023, and March 20, 2024. Similarly, to access domestic lounges in the January-March 2024 quarter, cardholders need to have spent Rs 10,000 or more between September 21, 2024, and December 20, 2024. Compliance with this spending requirement in each consecutive quarter will ensure continued access to domestic airport lounges.
Despite the introduction of the minimum spending criteria, the number of complimentary lounge accesses available to YES Bank credit cardholders remains unchanged, provided they meet the Rs 10,000 spending threshold in a calendar quarter. This adjustment aims to strike a balance between managing operational costs and maintaining customer satisfaction.
YES Bank has communicated these revised terms regarding domestic lounge access to its cardholders through email communication, ensuring transparency and clarity regarding the changes.
This move by YES Bank reflects a broader trend within the banking industry, where banks are reassessing and refining their credit card rewards and benefits programs to optimize costs while enhancing customer experience. By implementing minimum spending requirements, banks aim to ensure that lounge access privileges are reserved for customers who actively utilize their credit cards, thereby contributing to the bank's revenue streams.
While some cardholders may find the introduction of minimum spending criteria inconvenient, it presents an opportunity for individuals to maximize the value of their credit cards by strategically planning their expenses to meet the threshold for lounge access benefits.
YES Bank's decision to introduce a minimum spending requirement for domestic airport lounge access underscores the bank's commitment to responsible credit card usage and aligns with industry-wide efforts to streamline rewards programs. By adapting to evolving market dynamics, YES Bank aims to provide its customers with enhanced value and service, while effectively managing costs associated with lounge access benefits.
