Kuwait Desalination Plant Hit Again as Emergency Teams Rush to Restore Water and Power
An airstrike damaged a major Kuwait power and water desalination plant as the Iran-US war continued into April. Kuwait News Agency reported the site was hit before midday on Friday. Officials said the damage could affect electricity and water supply, as assessments continued across the affected area.
The strike marked the third attack on Kuwait’s desalination infrastructure in two weeks. The scale of the latest damage was not yet clear. Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy confirmed the hit on Friday. The ministry said parts of the facility suffered material damage.
Kuwait Times cited ministry spokesperson Engineer Fatima Hayat on the response. Engineer Fatima Hayat said technical and emergency teams acted under approved plans. Emergency repair work was underway after the strike. Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water also posted a statement on X. The teams began work "immediately" to "maintain operational efficiency".

The attack raised public concern, including rumours of a radiation leak. Kuwaiti authorities rejected the claims and urged people to stay calm. Kuwait remained on high alert as the regional crisis persisted. Kuwait is among the closest countries to Iran. The coastlines are separated by about 80 kilometres.
Kuwait’s Mina al-Ahmadi oil refinery was also reportedly struck by Iranian drones. BBC cited Kuwaiti officials saying no injuries were reported. Officials warned desalination disruptions could be serious, as such plants supply most drinking water needs. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke with the Crown Prince on Friday. They discussed deploying UK air defence systems.
