Netanyahu Delays Planned Visit to India Following New Delhi Terror Attack
Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has postponed his planned visit to India. His office confirmed that efforts are underway to set a new date. The delay follows a major terror attack in New Delhi, which occurred two weeks ago and resulted in at least 15 deaths and numerous injuries. This incident was the deadliest in over a decade.

Despite the postponement, Netanyahu expressed confidence in India's security measures under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A statement on X emphasised the strong relationship between the two leaders and their countries. It mentioned that coordination for a new visit date is already in progress. "The PM has full confidence in India's security under PM Modi, and teams are already coordinating a new visit date," the statement read.
The planned visit would have been Netanyahu's first trip to India since his six-day visit in January 2018. The Israeli Prime Minister's Office highlighted the strong bond between India and Israel, stating, "Israel's bond with India and between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Prime Minister @narendramodi is very strong." This delay underscores ongoing security evaluations and their impact on international diplomatic engagements.
Netanyahu had initially planned to visit India by the end of the year. However, this marks the third postponement of his trip this year. The previous visit was significant as it was only the second time an Israeli Prime Minister visited India. These delays highlight the importance of security considerations in diplomatic planning.
Following the attack in New Delhi, Netanyahu conveyed his condolences to the Indian government and its citizens. He assured solidarity with India, emphasising that terror would not deter the strong resolve of both nations. "India and Israel are ancient civilizations that stand on eternal truths. Terror may strike our cities, but it will never shake our souls," Netanyahu stated on X.
In a heartfelt message, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, extended their deepest sympathies to the victims' families, reinforcing Israel's support during this challenging period. "To our dear friend Narendra Modi and to the brave people of India: Sara and I, and the people of Israel, send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Israel stands strong with you in sorrow and in strength in this time," the post read.
Strengthening Diplomatic Ties
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently met with Netanyahu during his three-day visit to Israel. This meeting underscored the ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between the two nations. Such engagements highlight the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic relationships amid global challenges.
The recent developments reflect both nations' dedication to fostering robust diplomatic relations despite challenges. The commitment to rescheduling Netanyahu's visit demonstrates a shared resolve to continue collaboration on various fronts while ensuring safety remains a priority.
