US Suspends Immigration Applications from Afghan Citizens Following White House Shooting Incident

The United States has halted all immigration applications from Afghan citizens indefinitely. This decision came after a shooting incident near the White House involving two National Guard members. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the suspension to reassess security and vetting procedures. The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan who arrived in 2021, was identified as the attacker. He is currently hospitalised under strict security after being wounded during the incident. Lakanwal entered the US through Operation Allies Welcome, which expedited asylum for Afghans post-Taliban takeover in 2021. Investigators believe he acted alone.
