US-Iran Talks Could Yield a Meaningful Deal Within Ten Days, Says Trump

US President Donald Trump said the United States may reach a turning point with Iran soon. Trump set a window of about 10 days for movement. Trump warned that "bad things will happen" without a "meaningful deal". The comments came as indirect contacts between Washington and Iranian representatives continued.

Speaking at an event in Washington, Trump said the talks sounded constructive so far. Trump also said reaching agreement with Tehran has been difficult for years. Trump framed the next days as important for outcomes. Trump said, "And, you know, good talks are being had. It's proven to be, over the years, not easy to make a meaningful deal with Iran. We have to make a meaningful deal, otherwise bad things will happen," Trump said.

Trump indicated the United States could choose agreement or further action. Trump linked that choice to the near-term timeline. Trump said, "So now we may have to take a step further or may not. Maybe we're going to make a deal. You're going to be finding out over the next, probably, 10 days," Trump added.

Trump pointed to Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during the same event. Trump said both were leading the US side in indirect talks. Trump described meetings as positive and notable. Referring to the pair, Trump said, "Good people and they like them both. And they've had some very good meetings. They've had some very interesting meetings having to do with, as you know, Iran is a hotspot right now, and they're meeting and they have a good relationship with the representatives of Iran."

US-Iran talks amid Middle East military moves and nuclear concerns

Reuters earlier reported that the United States expanded forces across the Middle East. The deployments included aircraft carriers, fighter jets, and added defence systems. The moves arrived as pressure on Iran increased. Separately, Reuters analysis of satellite images said Iran reinforced nuclear and missile-related sites.

The images showed strengthened tunnel entrances at sensitive locations. They also showed extra concrete protection at key facilities. Iranian officials have repeatedly denied seeking nuclear weapons. The denials continued despite international suspicion. The wider standoff kept focus on the risks around nuclear activity.

Diplomacy followed a long and uneven path between the two countries. Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear deal in Trump’s first term. Trump has argued for a tougher and wider agreement since then. Efforts under former President Joe Biden to revive the earlier deal did not reach a binding outcome.

Recent indirect discussions in Geneva were described as constructive by both sides. Senior US officials still said major gaps remained. Trump also launched a Board of Peace meeting in Washington DC. Trump convened it at the 'Donald J Trump Institute of Peace'. Explaining the mission, Trump said, "What we're doing is very simple – peace. It's an easy word to say but a hard word to produce. But we are going to produce it, we've been doing a really good job and some of these leaders who are with me have helped me a lot during this first year, which we have had like no other... we've had a great relationship... and I appreciate you being here."

Officials have not given a formal signal of imminent military action. Still, attention stayed on US-Iran relations due to several factors. These included Trump’s 10-day deadline and visible US deployments. Reuters reporting on Iran’s site hardening also added to scrutiny. The next phase depended on whether talks narrowed remaining gaps.
